I just fixed my Xbox with the penny fix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ&feature=fvw
this works provided that you
1: USE THERMAL COMPOUND! DO NOT USE HOT GLUE! the chips need that heat transfer. if the chips are fried, dont even bother...
2: USE PENNIES OLDER THAN 1980. they are made of copper, NOT ZINC. this is important.
3:DONT USE TOO MUCH THERMAL COMPOUND! barely a drop is needed.
4: the compound dosent set, so i used electrical tape to hold them in place.
5: completely wrap the pennies. you dont want current in them, thats why the tape is there.
6: you also need an aux cable or it always gets some red rings. i almost prematurely called it totally broken when it wasnt in.

Plus, some of the things this guy mentioned in the vid are not true. like the xbox dosent sense the screws and it wont ban your live account(your hard drive shouldnt be connected, anyhow)

Ya, I don't think the xbox360 can detect anything modded besides it's own firmware and the disc speed of the DVD-ROM drive.

Modded hard drives I don't think fit in that criteria either, as any larger than 120g are not recognized until the patch with the new WAW coming out. Unless something about the file system is out of place.

If you haven't given up already, Llamma has a new heatsink/heat pipe setup for sale to replace the existing units. This is part of the MS fix for the issue so it might help some. It transfers heat from the GPU to the CPU which has better airflow.

Just a thought.
