Had to order some parts for the portable. Should be here next week. Until then I guess I will have to design the case. The Idea is to make it a gameboy layout with a metal band around the entire perimeter with wood front and back.

when i first saw the word "metal" i was like " no wood?" but then i kept on reading
good luck!
Working on the case right now. African Mahogany fronts and backs with Aluminum siding. Final dimensions will be roughly : 4.25" wide x 6.25" tall x 1.75" thick. I am not to happy with the thickness but the cart does slide down the back so its kinda hard to avoid that.
I bent the aluminum with my sheet metal break and then I am gluing the front panel on with liquid nails. Bottle says it bonds to wood and aluminum so I am hoping that it will provide a nice clean seal. It should be flexable enough to prevent cracking and the like. After it dries I will cut the shape of the front out with a sander then cut out the holes for the controls, screen, jacks, cartridge. The back panel will be removable.
Overall I am hoping the look and feel of the portable will be "beefy". Like when you hold it it will feel like it is bomb proof. So industrial looking with a wooden flair ? I guess that is a way to put it.

Its looking good though.
Yah I wish there was funding for a larger screen but you get what yah get. Originally the plan was to stick all of it inside of an Atari cart (minus the cart slot) but it never really fit that well. Unfortunately the screen was already bought but a 3.5" screen would be perfect for this case. We shall see how it turns out.

Yes it is a small screen but maybe the Longhorn Engineer can craft for his AtariBoy, a Super Wide (like here and here) and that will improve it.
The case does look sweet. I love the look of the wood, I hope the varnish or protective coating you apply doesn't change the color too much. Great work so far, I'm looking forward to seeing the video you have when it's complete. Keep us up-to-date in the mean time.
