It is indeed. Very smooth, and with no paint I don't have to worry about sweaty hands.

Compared to my previous SNES portables, this one is a lightweight. There's probably a couple of pounds difference between my black ZN-40 SNES and the SuperBoy. The ZN-40 SNES had a lot of bondo (like, 2 sticks of it), used li-ion camcorder batteries, an SNES mini, and a larger case. All that adds up pretty quickly! This one, in comparison, is using a small Retro Duo board, li-po batteries, a smaller case, and no bondo.

The one with the SL-64 case? Yes, you do! I bought a couple of those after seeing your project. I have an idea about using an SL-64 case, an FC Twin, an AEIComp screen, and one 3.4v li-po battery with a voltage booster to run the whole system off of just 5v.

Alright everyone who owns a Retro Duo - I need some help. I have a 100uF 10v capacitor that goes in this spot, only I don't know which way the polarity is supposed to be. It seems that it's a cap between the 5v line and ground, so do I just line it up with that? It would be best if whoever answers this one actually looks at their Retro Duo and double checks.

I worked with some JB Weld epoxy last night, adhering the P2 port and power jack in place:

The pins kept sliding back and forth, so I epoxied those in place:

I also worked on getting the screen back into working condition. There was significant light leakage from the corners where the LEDs were inserted so I slapped some JB Weld on the corners because it's nice and opaque. Kind of a permanent solution, but I don't really care.

The negative side of the capacitor goes to ground. Do it the other way around and you'll blow the cap.

Yes, I think thats true, but from the pic it doesn't look like you can tell which one it goes to, I'll open mine and check for you tomorrow, don't get hasty!

SS

EDIT: Seems I can't help, different Revision board, stuff seems close, but I wont make any calls. Go with Negative to ground, and positive to 5v, you can't go wrong.

Well, in addition to needing a new cartridge slot the Retro Duo which was once dead and came back to life is now acting really flaky. This project is on hold until I either get a new cartridge slot and manage to coax the Retro Duo back to life or until I just buy a new Retro Duo.

Holy crap. You are a casemaking god. WITHOUT A DREMEL!?
wow some people are easily impressed, all dremels are really good for are quick rough cuts. on my cases the dremel is used to cut peices to fit, any shaping and cutting after that is mostly xacto knives, 80 grit sandpaper on peices of PCB, 150 grit sandpaper and files

Is it bad that all I've ever used to make my cases are are cutting wheels on a dremel? All I use my sandpaper for is when the tip of my soldering iron gets too black to melt solder...

its not hard to be decently accurate and do fairly clean cuts with a dremel but if you want really accurate shapes (curves, bevels, nice smooth edges, good square cuts etc) a dremel isnt gonna cut it (no pun intended lol) i aim for as close to perfection as i can get and i use whatever tools i need to to get there!

This portable is now officially for sale. Here is the "For Sale" thread in the Trading Post. I still need a new RetroDuo SNES board to finish this portable, but if you can get one to me I can finish this portable up probably within a week.

I'm a bit late, I've only just seen this thread for the first time :)

Life of Brian: you're cases always look bloody fantastic! Can't believe you did that with only a drill, knife and file, must have taken a fair bit of work to get it to look so "clean"!
I am a case modder trying to be a portablizer. Will get there one day. :)

Hey, since this is your second build with the AG-85, I'm trying to work on my first ever build and I want it to be a SNES. I actually own a full-sized SNES, what are the chances of it actually fitting into that case along with the other components? Also, do you happen to know if this type of screen could fit in such a case?

Thanks to anyone who has experience with SNES + AG-85 cases! :P
