I'm gonna get my ass kicked now, right?
GBA Screen Hacking

No, I've tried. if you try to give the GBA a backlight, you wont be able to see the screen. There has to be light in front of the screen to see it. Get a GBA SP.goodie wrote:cennar wrote:Its a sticker, peel it off.JackFrost22 wrote:you cant theres a reflective coatingIf he is right then it may be possible to LED mod it.cennar wrote:as a guy whos ripped apart all game boys and the DS its complately improbable. just do a back lit with flat white leds and ither a peace of white paper or some other thin thing that glows while lit.
Dude, it's Duck Hunt.
So cennar(or anyone else who knows), is the reflective sticker on the front?

Or is it under the metal thing on the back?

Also, does that metal thing have to be removed in order to put in the LEDs?

I haven't looked at the GBA screen at all, but if it's like most LCDs then I'm assuming the "sticker" on the front of the screen is a polarized film. If you have something that you know is polarized (ie sunglasses labeled as so) then you can hold them up in front of the screen to check.goodie wrote:I removed the "sticker" from the front of the screen. But now you can't see the picture. I tried shining a flashlight through the back, but couldn't see anything. However, if I hold the remains of the "sticker" close to the screen, then I can see the image through it. I'm not sure what to do...
I've come to the conclusion that the reflective coating is inside the lcd glass itself, and is therefore unaccessible.
Unless I can get some of that film, my screen is no longer usable. Oh well, I'll make the most of it. I'll probably get a transverter and give it a PSOne screen.

GBA as Composite Screen
I have a cart for my GBA/SP hat lets me input Composite Signals. Concidering the size of the screen, and the amount of scaledown there is, its not THAT bad, but dont expect to read ANYTHING on it. On a Non-backlit GBA its really hard to see. The cart cost me about $25USD + Import Shipping. If i could get some info on the ROM IC used in the cart, and find out where to get the video encoder chip (from Phillips) I can dump the rom, and build a smaller one.
There are also TV Tuners for the GBA.
As for GBA output to Composite, there are add-on kits for the GBA that let you plug it into a TV. I dont think they have them for the SP though. For the cost of the GBA Output Mod, you should just grab a GBA Player for the Cube.
If you wanna "Backlight" your GBA, get this thing called the Afterburner Kit. Ive got one, its a frontlight for the GBA. It works just as good as the SP
Humm... isnt the GBA Player a screen-less GBA? Im sure if someone wants to do a GBA mod, starting with the GBA player would be better, its cheeper, and you will have less scrap parts. Dont ask me about a controller though.

Um... the Afterburner was mentioned before...
...and it's a frontlight, not a backlight.
...and this is an old thread.
