Wii is fantastic - thoughts on modding...

I think the best way to go about doing a WiiP is to use a microcontroller to emulate the controls. You would have a general purpose set of controls hooked up through the uC (lets call the microcontroller that for now). The uC would have various 'profiles' programmed, each for a specific game. That way it is a sort of compromise between game-specific WiiPs and one with all the controls on it.
Like this:
Controls->uC->Wii
I seriously doubt you could do this without hacking up a Wiimote, and you would probably have to hack up a Nunchuck too. Does anyone have an oscilloscope? I'm not really an expert but something that could measure and log the signal would help us figure out how the signal works, and how to program the microcontroller.
Bottom line: We should get someone with a Wii and an oscilloscope (perhaps there is a more appropriate tool that I don't know of?) and who doesn't care if they break their Wiimote.
That person is not me.
Honest.

I have the feeling that the solution is to hand, if we pull together. If palmertech is right, that might be worth (someone) exploring - the fact the joystick on the guitar does this means it can be done and it might mean to do such a WiiP would need to waste a guitar in the process for the joystick and its board. Bear in mind, when the Wii gets dirt cheap, as it will, so will the add-ons too.
I actually do have both a Wii and an Oscilloscope, but I'm not sure what you'd have me do with it as I haven't used the Oscilloscope. If anyone knows what we're looking for, perhaps I'd be of help, but I think that for the most part the PC Wiimote drivers should provide the necessary documentationXCVG wrote:I think the best way to go about doing a WiiP is to use a microcontroller to emulate the controls. Okay, let me explain a bit. What someone needs to do is figure out how the outputs of the various sensors change as they are moved. That way, we can figure out how to emulate those in a uC. The uC method would still require you to hack up a wiimote unless someone can decipher the output and figure out how to emulate that. Perhaps we should get in contact with those wiimote->pc people?

AFAIK, that will not work in menus that require a wiimote.Jimmyg1995 wrote:use a classic contoller or a gamecube controller
I found a few posts in google translate on using the wii guitar joystick, but they are pretty vague. Can anybody with wii guitar hero/rock band tell us what the deal is?

Excellent
would it be possible to use a game cube controller as the basis for a wii portable, then use a logic switch with a emulator software for the wii pointing, than do like sifuf and create a switch to change the function of the analog control between the two.
