I think those lines are just a side effect of one of the tricks they used to make the 2600 do more than it was designed to. Not too sure about the blank space in Asteroids, though. :?

Umm you know when you emulate an Atari the lines are still there :P

You are never going to get rid of them unless you reprogram the roms.

edit// bic hit it right on the head.

I think the asteroids is due to the fact that it was the first game to use bank switching.

I really like to use original hardware rather than 'system'-on-a-chip things. By the way, what are you talking about when saying "an already-portable device"? Lynx or somewhat similar?

I agree. To me, that's the whole point of making portables.

I am going to use this screen for my ATARIp:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-TFT-Color-LCD-M ... dZViewItem

I started with EV-680 but later changed my mind and now using that PUSTOM brand screen. It's 100% compatible with new video mod and resolution is the same as EV-680. That's fine. By the way I've recently modded the screen with leds and that gave a good brightness. I didn't use any resistors though; just took 5volts from a 7805IC. Overall, that resulted in a good picture.

Now, I'm going to start making the case. Dimensions are astimated to be 12.4cmX18cmX3.6cm.

if you didn't use resistors you could be "overclocking" your LEDs. In other words they won't last long if you run them over there specs.

Sadly, you were right; I've shorted the leds. Fortunately, I have a lot of them and made a new led mod with 2X10ohms soldered in series. I have a better brightness now and don't have the risk of shorting them again.

By the way, the front part of the case is about to finish in 3 days.

20 ohms is what I use. The guides online say to use 10ohms but thats pretty boarder line in my books.

As grahf pm'ed me requesting the motherboard photos of the Pustom screen, I thought I should post them here. There are even some progress photos. Enjoy!

Some specs:

1 This ATARI 2600 SAHNE uses PUSTOM led modded screen. I think it's the first time this screen is used in a portable. The screen works fine with 7 volts. With led mod applied; it saves a huge amount of battery amperage. Shortly, I can recommend this screen to ones who plan to use at least 7 volts at their portables.

2 My portable has 6XAA rechargeable batteries at 2500mAh.

3 Batteries are recharged in the unit via a charge jack.

4 I haven't played much since I finished so I can't give you a battery lifetime info right now but I estimate them to last at least 4 hours thanks to the led mod I applied.

5 The unit uses new video mod and has perfect image.(Don't take the photos as reference, though. They are taken by a 2mp camera.)

6 Unit has both the four-way controller(with custom design) and the paddle controller. Four-way controller has seperate trigger unlike the paddle, whose trigger is located on the custom four-way controller. You see that little red triggerish thing? That's it, cool isn't it?

7 Unit has a colour adjust pot at the back, over the battery compartment.

8 The three knobs at the bottom of the front half are for volume adjust, brightness adjust and colour adjust(I mean you can change the setting from the very colourfull to B/W - that's an amazing feature of this Pustom brand screen)

Hopefully, you liked my work. Enjoy it!

Very nice, it looks like the Special Edtion Ben made. The, whatever you did on the corners, is very stylish. The screen looks nice too.

Over all, an excellent portable.
