Actually, degausing is harder than it sounds. If you want to do it properly you could build a special device that degauses the TV. It consists of a special ring shaped electromagnet which then is pulsed by a special circuit. Arcade machine monitors have these rings attached near the faceplate, and they pulse for a bit every time you turn it on. You could rip one out of an arcade machine monitor and use it that way. Or if you happen to live close to me in Minnesota my grandpa has one. He used to repair TVs as a business.
