I diverted on my main project to try a small system, tried a portable television, 1.8"; hacked it apart and removed the television receiver parts, etc so everything fitted in a SNES cart (with some space remaining, just), however frankly a 1.8" screen is crap (abandoned it therefore); looking further into screens, I personally think even a 2.5" screen is too tiny; 3" screens cost about the same as 5.4" screens (about £30 UK) and of course 3" screens are ok but a bit "squinty" - at least that's my view. Playing on a NDS for even a short time I find gives eyestrain (that is a 3" screen). All things considered, I like 5.4" screens!! :D

I have a rather nifty project I will do for this compo, time permitting. I can't make beautiful cases but it will be better than my previous ones. The system will use a PSone screen (I have 3 remaining) and be small - around 16cm x 14cm or thereabouts, will use 4 x Nintendo DS Lite batteries (2 x 2 in parallel, giving 7.4v at 3600mAh). Just bought four of these batteries and a stand-alone charger off e-bay. Should arrive in 10-14 days. System will be quite low draw, about 1amp probably including systems, so hope to get about 3 hours playtime all being well (anything over 2 hours will be perfectly adequate). Bit tight for compo but should be fine. Keeping this one under covers until completed!

wait a min... i'm just as excited as everyone else to see your current snesp finished. but, can it be entered into this contest? you've been working on it for a few months now. that's not within the 6 week allotted time limit... :? that would almost be like me entering the handyduo...
they call me the Queen of Bondo, though maybe i should be called the Queen of Epoxy Putty

Exactly. The whole point of this compo is that you make one within the 6 week barrier. No other portables should be considered for entry; ie ones you started before the start of the compo date - otherwise there is no point to this.

I say let him "enter" it, but don't put it on the poll when voting time comes. I think he just needs some motivation to get his ADD rear in gear and finish a portable to completion this time :P

Oh, and here's a teaser pic. You can guess what I'm making by this button alone.

My case is nearing completion.

Hailraiser - generous of you to front the prize, however I thought people were entering for fun and fame rather than actual prizes!

BTW - what are the factors considered the most worthy in this compo by way of votes - looks, small size, expandability, lightness, unique system; etc??

There have to be yardsticks otherwise if the system is just based on looks, then people without vacuum forming equipment don't stand much chance!!

Will there just be one winning system or a "best X category", etc?
