Hello,
I'm about to start my SNES portable. My ultimate goal is to complete my 1st fully functional portable with this project. With that in mind I want to make this project as simple as possible. This led me to a couple of questions that I'm hoping you guys can help me with:
1) Can I leave the audio\video port as is on the motherboard & then simply plug it it & splice the ends of the wire to the appropriate spots on the psone?
2) Can I leave the reset & On\Off swith on the motherboard, then just make sure I leave it set to "On"?
3) I would like to leave the controller in tact, as is & simply plug it into the usual spot. Is this possible? & what effects will this have on the design (I've already resigned to the fact that this particular proj is going to have a pretty big case - and purchased a tacke box)
4)I plan on leaving the capicitors as is (I don't think this will be much of an issue with the big case Is this OK?
5) Did anyone ever "snip" the corners of the snes motherboard & is this possible.
Thanks guys!
Jeff S.
Some questions before I start.

1) Yes

3) Yes. it would be fine to not hardwire a player one controller in. But you will have the cord hanging around when you are playing if all controllers are external.
4) It's fine to leave the capacitors alone. They are only sometimes moved to save space.
5) It would be fine to snip off edges of the mobo IF it is just the grounding strip. Just to be safe I recommend you post a picture on what you would like to cut so people can check and make sure it is all right.
Okay, that's about it. Hope it helps!

Hey! This is my first post, FYI, and we share something in common here: We're both trying out first portable and it's an SNES. Are you using the new one or the old one? Because I'm using my old one, and I'm actually using the case itself. There's actually enough space inside it for two 9.6v batteries and some extra circuitry so... I'm going with that. Anyways, the biggest help I think I can offer at the moment relates to your controller question. Have you unscrewed a regular controller yet? If so, do it again and look at this: the circuitboard fits entirely in the front half of the controller case except for where all the wires come out (and the little L/R button boards, which I plan on rewiring to switches elsewhere on the case). This is what I plan on doing: drilling a hole in the case big enough to put the wires through, and then just seating the front half of the controller over top of it to cover it up. In my mind it looks pretty good. I'm assuming you do want the controller attached to the case. As far as other aesthetics go, using the original plug won't work real well in my case because I'd have the wire from the plug just doubling back into the housing. If your motherboard is completely internal though, then that shouldn't look so bad. First try, go for something simple. Anyways, maybe we ought to correspond a bit and share the journey. Good luck!
