Spyware and Addware!

Post by Thornwillow » Fri Sep 02, 2005 10:10 pm

I need help, my older computer is full of viruses, and i have PS Gurd on it, but every time it checks about 30% of the computer for the viruses, it locks up, all i know is that it says it has 2 viruses then it doesnt finish. I cant delete them! And also my background on that computer says:

WARNING: Your computer may be infected with spyware or addware! This may lose data on your computer!

Please help me get rid of them!

sometimes when the adware is real bad (so bad I can't install anti-spyware), I go to:
http://www.spywareguide.com and use their free online spyware scanner. (on the left hand toolbar)
for viruses (they always seem to kill antivirus installs) you can clean it off with the free online scanner at:
http://www.trendmicro.com
(under the 'personal' tab)

these online tools are just meant to clear you off enough to install something sensible. like adaware and AVG antivirus

In addition to what gannon recommended (both are great programs), I'd also recommend to change your browser to Firefox if you're using IE currently. There's so many holes in IE that allow people to get into your files, and since lots of people use it, it is the one most targeted for that kind of stuff. Firefox can be downloaded from www.mozilla.com.
