Low amperage, and you don't need 9V. Heck you could probably use 4 alkaline AA's (6V) or 5 rechargeable AA's (6V) to power the 12V line. Try it out, I don't see why it would not work.

WRONG! You don't need 9v, but you MUST have at least 7v (7.5v or higher preferred) because there is a 7805 on the line. Just add another battery of the same type to G-force's recommendations.

NOPE. Some 7805's can take less than 7V. For instance, I run my NOAC off a 7805 powered by 4 AA's (6V). And it works just spiffingly.

Of course if you are using a PSone screen, that will not work since it needs 7.2V.

 Interesting! I didn't know there were different versions of the 7805 and I'd always been told that the dropout level for one was 7v…

It is just a plain old Radio Shack 7805. I have no idea why everyone has this idea that it needs 7V to function :?

It says so in Ben's book, and no one corrected me until now, so everyone must've thought that (or so it seemed). Thanks for the correction though.

Come to think of it I even run the NES p0cket 7805 off 4 rechargeables at 1.3V each so it might be just at the 5V level. Perhaps even a little below. But it runs for a long time, so I never messed with it.

Anybody know how to get the start button and the d-pad to the other side of the box WITHOUT cutting the controller's circuit board?

Here is a pic of what the box looks like so far:

Sorry, but I can't figure out how to reduce the size of the image.
EDIT: Nevermind!
I got the idea of cutting the controller itself out from Gamelver
