Gamelver, wouldn't a mirror work better, or a piece of plexi?

A mirror, even if it would fit inside of the screen tightly, would probably not be as good as aluminum foil because it does not provide a diffuse reflection. Ideally, you want to keep as much light going out of the screen and you want that light spread as evenly over the screen surface as possible. With a mirror you are probably going to get bright spots and won't look as even as with aluminum foil.
I used aluminum foil on my PSONE (though I never thought of it as an innovation - I assumed everyone else was doing it already as well) and I don't have a whole lot of complaints about the brightness. In fact, the brightness seems to be more affected by the angle I look at the screen.

yeah, it looks great with aluminum foil
...just a bit better than without it, though
...I'm gonna try those 10,000 mcd leds, though
....I bet with those I would even have to do the brightness mod
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Go to a party supply store and try and get some silver sheets of mylar. Its 100% reflective. Normally you use these sheets to wrap gifts, or you could try to cut open one of those mylar party baloons that have actual pics on them, and flip it inside out to use the sliver side.
here is a pic of the baloon...

I cant find the mylar wrapping paper though.
Both of these are really cheep, i got a roll of the wraping paper for $1.99, and its fairly large.

Is there any material that is thin but allows either tin foil or mylar to be stretched over it (w/o bending) and can fit in the back of the light box and be a good reflector? Engraving plastic is probably way too thick but "chip dip lid" plastic that Ben tells people to use for Start/Select buttons in his book would probably work, only it would need to be a big enough piece.

You can just attach it to the back of the light diffuser plastic; it's about an 1/8" thick.usbcd36 wrote:Is there any material that is thin but allows either tin foil or mylar to be stretched over it (w/o bending) and can fit in the back of the light box and be a good reflector? i think he means it goes on and off with the screen via the 7805 connection. As for the tin foil idea, that is a good one I never thought of trying that myself. The did a similar thing inside the Sega Nomad and (obviously) it worked very well (with a cathode though). I'll try the mod out if the pics show off some effectiveness (especially in the middle of the screen).
