No sound on PSone screens...............

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

No sound on PSone screens...............

Post by Gamelver »

I was testing my GC to my PSone screen to play a little SCII ( I LOVE that game) and when I turned on the screen, the video came up but ther was no sound!!!!!!!!!I tested it on my tv and it worked fine. I tried switching the LCD board of the PSone screen with aother and still no sound. I've switched the speakers, switched everything which could be and still no sound! Anyone have any ideas on what is happening?

My screen.......................
Just could be..........................
POSSESED!!!!!!!!!!!!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the only thing I can think of.....................
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

yeah I'm almost certain that the sound is plugged in right. first I just connected the GC to the screen directly from the board. When there was no sound I tested it with the AV cable and still no sound. Then I attached it to my TV and there was sound! I am completely stumped....
Tommorow I'll see if maybe the audio really is getting to the speakers but how it could be broken on two lcd boards?.........I hope I can fix this.........

do you have the audio grounded? make sure that there is continuity between the negative input on the power source and the outside of the A/V

yeah i'm sure it's grounded, 'cause the video was still running when I unplugged the audio cable. also, when I had the GC directly connected to the screen without the AV cable I know it was grounded, too.

do the speakers work when you have it hooked up to something else, like a vcr?

I hooked up one speaker to a CD player using the headphone jack and it worked fine. Later I'll use that speaker to test and see if I can get any sound. I'm too tired to do it right now. Long day at school today  and I just need to rest...........

Something occured to me about your problem while reading another thread in this forum. I think you need to connect pins 5, 6, and 7 of slot 2 together in order for the speakers to work. They are the headphone pins. By connecting these pins together, you are simulating that NO headphones are in the jack... I think. Check the diagram that shows how to wire RGB to the PSOne screen here:

Maybe this helps. I dunno. It just rung a bell.

yeah I thought of that. I'll go try it out now. I would've tested that yesterday but after the small chat I fell asleep and woke up at 7 in the morning  ! I can't remeber when the chat ended but I know I got a lot of sleep. anyway before I passed out I checked to see if headphones would work for the sound and......nothing. I'll try what you said and see if it works

How do you have it wired up? Are you connecting it directly to the lcd controller board or the header?

I just came back from fiddling around with my screen and I still couldn't get any sound.......... :( In response to your question, MR.MOD, I tried it both ways and still nothing, but I only did that for one screen. later I'll try the sound directly to the LCD board and see if it works. in response to scherzo, the 3 pins for the headphone were already connected together, as they should be, I think, so I don't think that's te problem I'm beginning to think that some component might be fried, or something, although I have no idea what it could possibly be.

On a different, better note, my Astroflight 109 Li-poly sharger came in!!!!!!!
It's really light; I kinda thought it would be heavier........
Also, the psone screen I used for the N64p4 which I thought was fried, WORKS!!!!!I found that there was no sound for that one either......I only connected the audio to the header board, though. Later I'll try it directly to the LCD board.

Just double check your connections. Make sure the hp jack is connected. Thay's really all you can do. It's not really that bad though if the speakers don't work just inconvient.

Sounds like a really nice charger. Tell us how well it works.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D well, I FINALLY got sound working! I just traced the pin for audio(L) until I got to a resisitor, I jumped it and VOILA! There was sound!!!! I thought that was the problem but I checked everything else first.

Anyway, gotta get back to.........the GCp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah! Good job, I guess the sound signal was just to weak to get past that resistor. :D (Also Im surprised no one mentioned to turn the sound up all the way on the PSone screen. It would've sucked if that was your problem.)

it could be that the resistor blew completely and no electricity could go through at all. Good find, though.
