On/Off switch on original mobo

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

On/Off switch on original mobo

Is it nessesary to connect the On/Off switch to always 'ON' on the original mobo? I don't think it does because it is a connection in the cuircut line prior to the 7805 regulator, but I want to cover my bases.
