There isn't really any easy way to make motherboards for anything but the 2600 any smaller.

I am curretntly in the middle of making the BIG PS2 "mobile". This means that i can have a powerful battery pack to power a compacted ps2 and a 7" LCD screen currently on its way from ebay {only $38} :D and the pack is soldered to a ps2 switch and that is soldered to the main power switch, this way i can cut the power to the battery and play from a 12VDC cigarrette lighter or from the ps2 wall adapter. i dont have a camera to show u guys what excatly i mean. i have also made the components fit more tiightly together so that the PS2 goes from around 4" to 2.5" Nice fit. I'll be sure to post pics later on when its almost done. :D

Ok first the PS2 mobo isnt heavy the heatsink that Sony uses is. Now if you going to make a portable out of the older PS2 go with the v3 models, these are small and have two boards so you dont have as many issues about langth and width.

As for how they made the PS2 slim. I think they murged the two MIPS cpus together, there uses to be one for PSone games and one for the PS2 games I'm guessing they are now one.

The boards themselves are close to same size in comparison but the pstwo doesnt have a huge dvd rom, power supply with huge heatsinks, no unused expansion port, and smaller controll ports. Wonder why they dont just make consoles small the first time oh wait a minute i do they want you to buy two consoles

But wasn't the expansion port used for the FFXI Harddrive so it wasn't completely useless but taking that out saved a large amount of space. Also no motor for a front loading disc drive helped it out as well.
