Mini-SNES and Megadrive in one!

Post by Unidentified Assilant »

I couldn't decide which portable to make when it comes to my birthday... so i'm going to make them both! It will be a SNES and a Genesis in one, I like the idea of this very much as well since I can play my back catalogue of what is probably two of the best gaming systems ever, I will be using a third party SNES controller that has a button layout similar to the Sega Genesis, which doesn't actually suffer play, I perfer it to the official ones, which makes it dead easy for both systems to play since I will be using the Street Fighter Radica (mainly for the fact I want 6-Buttons), there will be a 2 cartridge slots, and a PSone on the back! (Just Kidding) I have a few Q's though

1. How do I connect two AV Devices to the LCD?
2. How do I make the SNES pad accept Genesis and SNES?

1. Just split the wires and use a switch on the power lines of the 2 systems so only 1 in on at a time.

for the controller, just wire the d-pad and buttons from the SNES controller (plus ground!) to the Genesis controller (y, b, and a could be a, b, and c, for example.....l, x, and r could be x, y, and z)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Heres how you would do it the best way I can.

You basicly attatch the SNES and the Genesis boards to the same button. You would do the same thing with the AV too.

If you get lucky you can get the Controler Pinouts, if not you will have to use a multimeter.

It may not be that simple. Having two controllers hooked to the same button may cause troubles, like key masking and ghosting. I ran into that trouble trying to wire up my arcade cabinet to multiple consoles. Even with the other console off, one controller interfered with the other. I solved the problem by simply connecting only one pad at a time, which wouldn't work well in Unidentified Assilant's case.

Hook all of the buttons into a couple of 6PDT switches and then you make it so that you flip a switch and to change from one system to another. You could have the power into the systems and the av stuff attached to another switch as well. If you use buttons, you can array them so that on button trips changes them all and then you have a pushbutton control change for your systems. Here is a pic:

The brown thing is like a button glued to a big piece of plastic so that it moves all of the switches when pressed.

There are more elegent electronic ways of doing this, but this is cheap and easy.

hmmm....that's wierd....isn't it just a switch?...how exactly did it interfere?

I think each board pulls a little energy, so evently if you have a lot of boards its distruptive.

EDIT: Only problem with useing switches is you would need 12 of them... and thats a hell of a lot of switches lol

get a dip switch with 12 switches on it. you get all the switches you need and it doesn't take up much space :D

I might be able to make a switch to toggle controllers plugged in or not on 5v line.
