Well its obvious Ben created the cover, only he could write lines like that.

I cant wait till that have the price listed then I'll preorder my copy (or two).

The cover's kind of cool. Is it going to have step by step instructions or what?

I'd be suprised if it werent a step by step instructions otherwise it would be pointless to have a book published just to show Ben's creations, aswell him to have made the handbuild cases.

Maybe he'll stop by and tell us a few more details.

That soon I would have expected more like march rather then end of January. I hope it doesnt have any delays.

Interesting to know about the pre-order. Maybe I can talk about the book more now! I'll have to ask...

As for the page count, that sounds about right. In all likelyhood I'm going to have to cut DOWN on the number of pictures to get it to fit in 500 pages. I'm used to showing, not telling, but I guess for a book it's the other way around. *shrug*

I also didn't know the release date, now I do! I'm glad it isn't March/April as well. Portable-building is a good indoors winter project.

It is a step-by-step book, complete in every detail for EIGHT different all-new portables. HINT: They're all on the Project 42 page.

And finally, I had nothing to do with making the cover except providing the Atari. I'm thinking the hand-built SNES for the final cover, what do you all think? Should I run a poll? It should be a hand-built unit, since that's the most fair.

forgot to say it has the price!!! 29.99. i dont know if that is a good price...but heck, 500 pages of hacking is well worth it. ive paid 20.00 for 250 pages of crappy book...

Reasonable price enouph for me, just as long as it incudes hand building the cases, although with 500 pages, I think it would. Most novels or books that aren't really that usefull at all will cost that much. Besides, if anyone was like me and bought supplies that got really slaughtered (argh my case making skills), 30 bucks isn't all that much.

If you were at all worried about cutting pictures, you can always charge a couple bucks more and include a cd or mini-cd with it .

Well with Ben's guides I'm not conserned. I've been working off his orignal atari Howto and have most of it done (problem is getting the wires to stay). If his other instructions are as well written, descriptive and humorous I'll enjoy using the book.

After I solder, I usually end up hot-gluing wires to keep them in place and seperated if they are close to each other. Works wonders on hard traces.
