why bother without Expansion Pak, without Controller Pak when you can play any N64 game without N64?
If seriously, I think no. Expansion Pak is a memory card of 4 Mbytes. And there is no 4 megabytes of memory on 64drive

Compact Flash is faster then other SD cards I think. So that's why Marshall used it.

For all the N64 knows, a Majora's Mask ROM on the 64drive IS the cartridge that is in your N64. In other words, expect the same exact result that running a MM cartridge without a jumper pack would give you. From what I know, the only way to expand main system RAM is through the memory expansion slot - not the cartridge slot.

Correct.

You can not extend the RAM through the cartridge connection.

Cart emulator progress thread

Won't ever work in a million years. The N64 has 4 kilobytes of texture memory, this is a hardware limitation. No way to get around it.
What if we did a ram swap and used the expansion pack? I'm not planning on doing this, but I was just curious.

then youd ave 8kb of texture memory 4 of which would be even harder to access

Yep. It would not even be accessible because the addressing would not be existent.

It is like saying, I want to make my PlayStation 1 have 1 GB of RAM instead of the standard 2 MB. The BIOS was known to only address (or know of) a certain amount, and the CPU can only process (check the banks) so much at a time to and from RAM.

Hope I am correct :S
Please correct me if I am.

The N64 would not start, or, it would ignore the extra 4 KB of texture memory. Not to sure. Marshall will clear it up for you ^_^

This is not true. Its speed is about on par with SD cards, and he only used it because he thought it was faster at the time. This was to avoid having onboard RAM, which he had to add anyway because, as it turned out, CF cards were just as slow as SD.
Cheers,
