Hey, this looks really good. Is there a certain way that you did the painting on the buttons? By the way, do you know where I could get the black grip paint? I'm also looking at replacing my broken speaker. What would be a good alternative?

For painting, I sprayed the front of the buttons silver, and before the paint dried at all, I wiped it on a piece of paper towel. That wiped off the front face of the button, but left the silver paint in the grooves. I had to use my fingernails to chip off what was left on the sides.

I do not know where you can get the grip paint, sorry. This was a long time ago, I forgot exactly what I used. As for a speaker, depends on what you have laying around! Are you sure it is the speaker that is broken, though? Sometimes the sound on the gameboy itself goes out. Tried headphones yet?

Oh, ok. As for the speaker, it sounds like there's some rattling in there. Headphones work. I get very faint sound from the speaker. And if I hold it up to my ear, it sounds like a blown out speaker, but it was dropped a long time ago which caused it. I also use plastic primer, right?

Did you paint the inside of the battery compartment? I think I found some of the black rubber grip paint, but I thought it would be a little weird to paint the battery compartment with that.

I believe I painted the very edges of the inside, so that you could not see the original color through the edges of the battery cover. Other than that, I left it bare.

Oh ok. Did you use plastic primer and a clear coat? And was the rubber stuff spray on? Because the one I found was a spray. Sorry if it seems like I'm bothering you or asking too many questions.

I did not use plastic primer, I just made sure to clean the shell really, really well with soap and water, and also very slightly roughed it up with 1200 grit sandpaper. I did use clearcoat on the silver, but not on the grip paint.

And no, not a bother at all. I love Gameboy mods, look forward to seeing yours! :)

Was the sand paper to smooth out the scratches?

No, it was just to make the surface a tiny bit rougher. That helps the paint stick better! Only use very high grit sandpaper, though, or you will end up with scratch marks on the plastic.

Ok. Thanks for all the help and advice! :D I thought that maybe I should paint my GBC to go along with the front light mod and the speaker fix with a speaker from an sp. My friends think I'm crazy, but I don't like playing Dragon Warrior on my SP, because if I tap the cart even the slightest bit, it freezes. :wtf:

Ah, one more question, did you also do the rubber paint on the part that the cartridge slides up against? I the pics it's blocked so I can't really see it.

Yes, I did, though I did a pretty thin coat to make sure the cart could still slide.

Hey sweet Gameboy. I see you know how to light up cartridge. I managed to make one myself. I'm now looking into making a gba cartridge light up. Do you know if this is possible. If so where would the anode and cathode pegs be?

I really would like an android like dropdown notification box. Thats the only feature of android that is really better than iOS.
