Suggestions for a Original Xbox remote

Post by Hifeno » Thu Apr 21, 2011 9:24 am

I picked up a brand new original Xbox media remote kit for $2 at goodwill yesterday and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for modes it could be used for. Like maybe make it work on PS3 or something. Any Suggestions.

it wont. best you can do is setup LIRC on your computer and program it to see the 360 remote.

Well if it has the little receiver, you could mod it to be USB and have a nice USB remote. The Xbox connection is just USB, but in a different shape. If you solder on a USB connection, your computer should be able to recognize it with a driver or something. It was really easy to make the original Xbox CONTROLLER work on my Mac. I've never tried the remote.

Ironically, it's a lot easier to get the original Xbox controller to work on a Mac than on Windows 7.
If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

Only if the PS3 has the right software to read it. (More than likely not, unless you're still running Linux on it somehow. The actual PS3 remotes are Bluetooth, aren't they?)

You can run it on a PC with XBMC though!

thats cool to know, I tried the ps2 remote on Pc once had no luck (the early kind with the stick bit) the x-box one would be nicer looking too. Also What about one handed PC controls? you could get right off the wall and add a cordless phone receiver to the mix and have one handed voice controls over your home. (I did nitrous voice flux on one computer a few years ago hooked into a phone jack. it's a good mod unless you happened to invite a friend over who wants to be a dick and leave the phone on speaker wile watching a star trek marathon... Such a jerk move... My computer kept trying to do stuff the cast of TNG was asking)

Cennar, Your posts recently have been...odd.
But I doubt the PS3 could read the IR signals from the remote.
I'd suggest you use it on an original Xbox, they are great media centers as they stand.
