Guillou's Gcp workblog

Post by guillou » Wed Apr 06, 2011 1:22 pm

Hey,
I wanna make a Gamecube portable, I've already made a psone portable which is great and I'd like some information.
I looked a the topic entitled "Breakthrough in gamecube portablizing" by SS and I didn't really understood, does it mean I can run my Gcp with 7.4V batteries? If I can, I really makes it a lot easier as i've got great sony cameras' batteries which are easy and safe to use.
I bought for my N64 portable (that i didn't make in fact) a great 4,3" screen for 15$ and I think i'm gonna use it.

Yes that's correct.

Also check out the thread about using the wii drive with a gamecube. You can actually replace the GC disc drive with a wiikey fusion modchip to run games off an sd card :D

Yes, using a wiikey fusion looks great but it's a bit to complicated and I don't want to have to buy a 45$ wiikey and I don't have a wii DD so I think I'm going to keep it simple .
My batteries are 2100maH, is it enough?

No... Don't say that. You don't need the wii dd, I can't Argue with the money part. But I don't think its too complicated for you.

I bought am adaptor so I different have to do as much wiring... Just check out my build log.

you can't use those batteries unless you make a custom regulator board  the gamecube regulator board needs at least 11volts for it to work.

Ok You convinced me, I'll buy a wiikey fusion, does it work with all games?
Soif i'm kinf of a noob but will I need a regulator board?
Is the diagram I made quickly on paint good about the batteries because i wanna put 2 7.4v batteries of 2100maH each to have 4200maH?

From my understanding you have the wiikey backwards... you actually want to go directly to the port that says Wii
AFAIK it comes with the special ribbon cable for that connector.
You can then buy one of these to make it easier to solder.

Then you have to wire that adaptor to the spot on the GC mobo (going by your picture) at the bottom left.

In regards to the regulator you will have to make your own regulator board per the stickies instructions.

If you're using a PSOne screen I would recommend just feeding the 7.4V battery directly to the screen and also feeding the battery directly to your custom regulator board. The regulator board will then split up the power as necessary to the GC.... you might also need to directly feed the 7.4V to the GC 12V line but I'm not yet sure about that (I haven't really researched how I'm going to do this part yet...)

I was wondering, can I put my two batteries un series to get 14,8V so that I don't need a custom regulator and just use the original one?

Yeah you can do that but the battery life wont last that long since the gamecube does like 2.4A (Min) and 2.5A (Max) :P
I think thats how many Amps it does :L

Instead of putting them in a series Put them in a parallel configuration. Then instead of their volts adding together their mAh will add together.

Then he has to use custom regulators which as he posted he is trying to avoid and just use the Gamecube regulator.

Hailrazer is right, I don't want to need to use a custom regulator and moreover, the play Time will be the same as the gc draws 2.2aH for 7,4 volts and it draws
1,2aH for 14.8V so it will be the same and I won't need a custom regulator ;)
