Hackmodford's link would be smaller and cheaper.

Hahaha, it's fine, you're just being helpful as always and mistaken the pic
Happens all the time to me! (except for the helpful part)
BTW, can't wait to see some progress, hackmodford!

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
I'm thinking of making this my first portrait handheld.
What screwdriver do I need to open a Gamecube?

It's some kind of hex, I forget. But they are easy to get from a store.
I use the melting pens method and it always works good for me.

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
Here's a rough idea of what I want the case to look like. I'm going for that stacked layering thing that Ben does.
The idea is that mid part is a channel that will hold the heatsink. Air is sucked from the top and shot through the channel. There will be vents at the bottom end to let the air escape
This would also be my first portrait handheld.
Also you would insert an SD card into a slot at the bottom edge.
Edit: Updated the picture...
Edit2: Updated picture again...
EDIT 3: UPDATED AGAIN!

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
I used a dremel to open the gamecube and sure enough it fits in my lifesize mockup...
I think I'm going to need to replace that large component... what is that a capacitor? Is it even necessary?
Edit: Oh forgot to mention that I ordered a wiikey fusion last night too...
If anyone is interested I am going to make this thing to sell...

I might need to make it taller to fit the hands better

That might be good. But other than that, it's amazing!hackmodford wrote:I might need to make it taller to fit the hands better

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
Yeah slightly taller as you said. Other than that it looks sweet!! Would be even nicer with bevels edges. The flat/layered cnc look just does not do it for me.

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
I know what you mean... I haven't quite advanced to the "true CNC" method... I need more exp points
In any case Here's a taller mockup
I think the porportions look better now IMHO
Edit: I'm considering this battery
http://www.batteryspace.com/CustomPolym ... 38PID.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Or possibly this because it's smaller
http://www.batteryspace.com/li-ion18650 ... ionic.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
How long would a gamecube last on 2400mAH do you think?
Edit 2: checked zenlocs sticky and found this
7.4v - 2.3 Amps (min) 2.4 Amps (max)
So I think I might want to go with the bigger battery... I just got to make sure it fits with the shoulder buttons :/

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
Reminds me of the old atomic purple gameboy pocket.

Re: Hackmodford's Gamecube Log
Yeah... I'm trying to make it retro (hence grey) but trying to make it look like a gamecube (hence purple) but remind you of a gameboy (the black screen)
