So would it be possible to basically just put an out of the box Xbox 360 into a thick briefcase-like case, cut a hole out of the back where the xbox fans are and replace it with a metal grate to allow air to pass through, and cut a slot for the disk drive, power button, sync button, etc. Then, I plan to make a small removable covering that covers the hard drive. This would be an original Xbox I have laying around, not a Slim. Once I had this all hooked up, I would have to attach a screen to the top of the briefcase. The screen would preferably be powered by the Xbox's power system so I would only have to plug one plug in. Is there a small LCD screen, preferably with good quality video, that I could plug the Xbox Audio and Video cables in? I realize this would look rough, but I lack the skills to do the complex soldering and part swapping that the best Xbox 360 portables have. Does anyone have some ideas as to if this is possible? My biggest fear is overheating, I was hoping the grates on the back near the Xbox fans would help that.

This is very possible. A number of people have done pretty much the same thing. What size screen did you have in mind? I should be able to suggest a few.

Well, the size of the screen would depend on the case I used.. I was thinking around a 17 inch screen though. Do you also perhaps have a case recommendation?
Re: Xbox 360 portable idea
Most people use aluminum briefcases or custom made plastic cases. If you are interested I can make a case for you. I dont know much about monitors of that size. I believe most people use a (I'm pretty sure its around 15in) 720p gateway LCD monitor removed from its plastic.

I see, what would be your price? My budget for the whole project, considering I own the Xbox and the only things I need to purchase are the case and the monitor is $250. I can bring that up to $350 if I need to but I would have to wait a bit. If you would like to do this, I have some specific design concepts I want, which I can PM you.

why not build it yourself, there is ample information on the site, along with whatever knowledge you already have and members who know xbox can answer any questions.

That's fine Bush, and humakabula1 are you talking about the case when you say to build it myself? Or the Xbox laptop itself?
Re: Xbox 360 portable idea
I think hes talking about the case. If its too complicated for you id be happy to do it.

Re: Xbox 360 portable idea
im talking the whole thing.
it really isnt that hard, most households have all the necisary tools for a laptop mod
if you dont own a dremel you can cut case holes/vents with a drill and a saw.
if you find soldering hard, there are several videos explaining things you can do to make it that much easier.
but in the end it all up to you. im just sayign, you feel better knowing that you yourself have built it

Re: Xbox 360 portable idea
You have both given me something to think about. I will be gone for a week, so I won't be able to post anything until then. I'll think about whether or not I want to go with my original idea or humakabula1's idea. Thank you, both of you.
