Help with trimming

Post by 0uttake »

I can't get it working! I am wiring it up like this...

DO NOT USE THIS DIAGRAM IT IS WRONG
Image

I have only wired the power up and relocated the 3.43v line as shown, I haven't trimmed anything apart from the corner where the 3.43v line would usually go. I don't understand, I have relocated the sound trace as well. am I missing something? Does the 3.43v line need to be attached to ground with that surface cap as in my diagram?

I do get the L.E.D coming on and the right voltage give or take a little is getting to to the power pins on the gc. Also I tested voltage to the sound chip and it is getting the right voltage too.

This has happened to 3 gamecubes now so it must be something I am missing.

Tchay... I know you are a veteran of GC trimming, could you offer any advice?

BTW it is a rev/a

Ok so I have updated the diagram, it now looks like this.

Do the chips get hot? If the light is going on, then its probably your audio and video relocation that is incorrect. I've never relocated that far to be honest. Did you rip off any of the big capacitors in that area? 3 of those big caps are needed for audio and video.

Oh and your aqua colored line is unnecessary fyi.

EDIT: Did you do the audio and video relocation? Or did you not even cut that far?

EDIT again: I see some problems with the diagram. The 1.9v line is incorrect. The two spots yellow need to be shifted down one. Your board is not getting 3.43. You made the same mistake I made a while back. That small trace isn't ganna do the trick. You will need to either find a via that goes to the 3.43v layer specifically OR dremel and sand away the first layer and solder directly to the 3.43v inner layer. That make sense?

Tchay saves the day again, yes that makes sense. For some reason I thought that trace would reach the hidden layer.

So I will shift the 1.9v line down and file down to the 3.43v layer to solder the line to.

Fingers crossed and thanks again

Ok so found a VIA that goes to the hidden layer. I didn't move the 1.9v lines down one, I checked the hidden layer guide and they are in the right place, the top one feeds 1.9 to the processor and the bottom to the flipper chip. I will update my diagram tomorrow.

So I only had to solder one wire to get it working again. Can't thank you enough = ]

Glad it helped! :)

I'm just glad more people are trying this stuff. Maybe it will be more mainstream eventually and we can see some really small GCPS
