Constructing my own NES portable

Hello folks, I've been reading on the forums for some time and now it's finally time for me to jump headfirst into my first portable project.
I figure I'll post my progress and random questions I have as they crop up, all in this thread.
Please forgive my ignorance as I'm quite new to this and can be a bit dense at times : )

I'm using a standard NES and a psone screen. I plan on doing the LED backlight mod to the psone screen.
I want to be able to charge and play at the same time.
I want to use the original pushbutton power switch from the NES to turn everything on and off.
I'll incorporate a speaker into the handheld and may wish to have a headphone jack.
Must be able to control volume.
Would like to be able to control screen brightness.

My first concern is powering the system. I plan to use two of these Li-Ion battery packs...

I want to run them in parallel which should give me 4400 mAh at 7.4v.
I want to mod the charger that comes with them so I can just plug the handheld into the charger via a 1/8" jack.

I'm making a few assumptions here and I'd really like to be corrected and/or advised on anything I may be planning that may fry the system or injur myself or others.
I should just be able to solder a wire to both posts on the charger and connect the jack on the other end.
Then wire the other side of the jack to the batteries.
I would assume there is a protection circuit already in the batteries or in the charger.
I should be able to charge and play at the same time with this setup?????

Well...
Got the NES broken apart and am mostly finished with reducing its size.
Removed the RF box and the expansion port.
Just have a few capacitors to remove and resolder tomorrow.
I also hope to put together a video amp tomorrow.

Started tinkering with my generic psone screen.
Think I screwed up a couple columns of pixels, oh well, will use this one to learn on.
It's made by Pelican Accessories. Anyone have any info on it?
I'm clueless on how to determine what leads are for the video.
I'm assuming I'll be able to connect the video from the NES to a video amp then directly to the screen.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well I've got everything the nes fully wired but I'm concerned. I connected it to a tv and I get a flashing grey screen.
That cant be good?

are you using the original cartidge connector? those can ail pretty easily. I have a good one from an nes game genie if you are interested

actually it appears i've cooked my nes.
starting over with a noac. Now if you've got a connector that will let me plug my american games into a 60 pin card slot I'd be interested.

If you needed a 60-72 pin converter you could have found one in Gyromite...
A 72-60 converter is hard to find, so i wish you the best of luck in your search.
