N64 Charging

Post by mymixed » Sun Dec 19, 2010 1:56 am

Hey everyone,
I've seen this diagram and was wondering how to make it so that when the DPDT switch is in the middle, its off. When its to the right its charging, and when its to the left, Not charging but running off batteries. Thanks,

Well first of all its SPST not DPDT and second if you want that you will have to get a three way switch, the switch will have 4 pins on the bottom instead of 3 and going from left to right I would wire it up like this:

1. everything that requires power (n64, psone screen, etc.)
2. batteries
3. charger
4. ground

It would be possible to have it playing on left, doing nothing in the middle and charging on the right but its much easier to swap the middle and the right so it charges in the middle and does nothing on the right (what I've posted above playes left, charges middle and nothing right). The idea is in the left position it connects 1 to 2, middle connects 2 to 3 and to the right it connects 3 to 4. Hope that helps, personally I prefer using charging as the off position because when it's not connected to the charger it may aswell be off and for that you just need a standard 2 way switch.

Thanks! Could you elaborate on the two way switch Idea? It would be great to have it work that way actually.

EDIT: Would this work? I've modified the first diagram to work with a two way switch.

Ok, I'm testing out the protection circuit right now. Has any one ever had problems connecting to the protection circuit? When I connect my multimeter to p+ and p- I get 0v. But when I connect it to P+ and B- I get 7.2v. Any help would be :awesome:.

EDIT: I guess the protection circuit was in sleep mode or something. It works again!

Ok here is my crudely drawen diagram of how to wire your portable with a two way power switch.

Hope that helps

Mario, the n64, screen, and regulator are connected to the switch right, but they shouldn't also be connected to the batteries, that's what the switch does.

So this should work? Well; either the diagram is wrong and therefore are my connections wrong, or my fuel gauge is broken since it doesn't work when I attach it to the circuit board.

Wich one is it?

Thanks in advance.

It was neither one, the batteries made a short circuit and that totally uncharged them. Recharged them and...

That is exactly how I wired mine! Do you have a link to the PCB so I can read it's datasheet? I would suggest using this PCB.

EDIT: Oh okay, so they work now?

Yeah they work now :)

Here's a link to my PCB:
