Post by cplexroro » Sun Dec 05, 2010 7:55 pm

hi, i am in the midst of piecing together my pimp64 (see wahwahwahworklog ) and have already bought all my equipment, i really don't want to have to get a heatsink if it isn't necassary, can i just put the original one back on or leave it bare?
i drilled a hellabunch of holes in it so it'll get a lot of air...

You will want at least the stock heatsinks and that is only decent if you have vents.

The N64 is not worth water cooling. It barely even needs heatsinks if it wasn't in a case. :|

The simple answer is yes, you need heatsinks and thermal paste. Other than that, you will be fine. I just recommend not using the stock ones.

Thermal adhesive or thermal tape?

If you use thermal adhesive, they'll never come off. You'll also get really good heat transfer, as you would with regular thermal compound.

I would recommend using thermal paste. Artic Silver is awesome:

They have it at radioshack.
