Motherboard issues?

Sometimes when I plug things into my front USB ports on my computer it causes the monitors to go black and the audio to lag. The only real fix is to just restart my computer. I built it myself so I'm assuming its either my negligence or maybe a motherboard issue. Any ideas?

Sounds like maybe the wiring isn't right or something. Doesn't happen very often, but I have come across some motherboards in the past that didn't follow the "standard" wiring scheme for the USB headers on the board.

Were they working previously though and are just now acting up? If so, it might be a bad board.

What sucks about USB is that it's CPU reliant, so stuff plugged into USB can cause funky things to happen sometimes.

What sucks is when I write a paper and plug in a USB drive to save it and this happens. All that work, down the drain.

I had a computer once that the motherboard usb ports didn't work. we had a pci usb controller, and whenever i plugged something into the pci card, the computer froze, I think it might have had something to do with the drivers.

do the usb ports on the back by the mouse connections work right?

haha just try to check on your usb port or those connections you engange in..sounds more like a virus thing to me.. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :facepalm:

Again, it sounds as if you have not plugged it in correctly (I am sure that is is a Grounding issue), or a pin is missing (by default, there is only 1).

It can't be a Virus :roll:
