Either way works as well.
Use a PTH08000 or pth08080.
Don't regulate your 12v to 7.4v, you'll just waste power. The n64 accepts 12v and draws less power at 12v than at 7.4v.
DONT USE A 3500 MAH BATTERY IF ITS NOT IN THE PORTABLE. Go WAY bigger.
also, you have a large space under the cartridge slot in which you could fit a pretty large, say 57000 mAh battery.

Hey snow, this confuses me a bit.. Using a 3500mah 12v battery, that's 3500mAh @ 12v right? so if you use a high efficiency switching regulator to output 7.4v. your no longer using your battery at 12v. so the mAh would become 5393.15mAh ( 12v / 7.4v = 1.622 .. .. 1.622 * 3500mAh = 5677mAh .. .. then, assuming the regulator is 95% efficient: 5677mAh * 0.95 = 5393.15mAh)snowpenguin wrote:Don't regulate your 12v to 7.4v, you'll just waste power. So yes, regulating the 7.4v from 12v you lose about 283.85mAh to the inefficiency of the regulator. BUT you gain 1893.15mAh overall. ..so surely regulating down the 12v line doesn't "waste power" right?

The n64 draws MORE POWER at 7.4v than at 12V. The Regulator WASTES POWER that would not be wasted otherwise.
The battery still outputs 12v, and 12v is still used, it's just the excess is WASTED.

Even if your right, and it takes more power at 7.4v, which doesn't make sense on a theoretical electricity level because all the components use what power they use. and if they'll take 7.4v instead of 12v you WILL get an increase in theoretical mAh.
If you don't regulate the 12v line your then left with the problem of powering the screen. you can't put 12v into the screen, but you CAN put 7.4v.

snow is right. its simply retarded to step the 12v line down to 7.4v. not only is it wasteful for electricity, it is also redundant, as the n64 drops it into a 7805 anyway.
