cell phone type batteris in series
is it safe to wire cell phone/ipod batteris in series? does it require another circuit? i know these batteries have circuits built in, but it's only for the battery itself, not for double the voltage. any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
thanks guys!

i know people have wired like gba batteries in parallel. but that wouldn't effect anything with the charging/discharging since it's just increasing the mah. but in series, how would i go about safely charging?

In parallel.. Lol. But otherwise its just a battery pack, if its 7.2v it needs a 7.2v charger. for lithium batteries.

Re: cell phone type batteris in series
ok, maybe i should rephrase this.
i know i CAN. but is it safe? i know that these type batteries have the protection circuit built in to the battery. but, it is only meant to handle 1 battery. not 2. so, is it safe to wire them in series? will they charge properly? will they explode?
or here's another idea. would it work to wire them in both parallel and series, having a switch to go between the 2? then i could charge with the normal charger with the batteries in parallel, and then switch to series for when in use? i could even have it tied in with the power, so that i could only charge when it is off. or is that just a crazy stupid idea?

Im almost positive that its fine for each cell to have its own protection circuit. I mean I've done it before. with two bare cells
I had and two protection circuits i made myself. Hasn't blown up yet...
My reasoning is that the protection circuitry exists between the two terminals of the battery, anything outside the battery, including other batteries, does not affect the voltage across those terminals in any strange way. It shouldn't be able to tell the difference. It will still trip if there is two much current through either of the batteries, or the voltages are out of range. It almost seems like it would be somewhat redundant.
Any generic 7.2v lithium battery charger would work

thanks! i'm just a little hesitant since i've had issues in the past with batteries...

Unfortunately, it was made by a spammer, so it was removed.timmeh87 wrote:LOL what happened to that creepy post where the guy called you "baby"? That was too funny.
