Question about Zenith/PSOne Screens and PAL/NTSC

Post by lucidPerspective »

Hey, I'm contemplating building a PS2p and had a little question. I'm planning on using a PS2 slim + HD Combo, so booting games off an internal HDD. And hopefully removing the dvd drive altogether (time will tell how that one goes)

The thing is I'm in NZ so our games are PAL (games I would be putting onto the internal HDD would be PAL) ..It's very hard finding PAL PSOne or Zenith screens and when I do they're always way to expensive (including postage here)

I'm almost 100% sure that PSOne/Zenith screens are either PAL OR NTSC, if I'm wrong please correct me! Basically I'm wondering if HDLoader/Open PS2 Loader will display PAL games on an NTSC Zenith screen, and do it well.. ..or I'm asking for suggestions on how I could get around my dilemma.

Please throw all the insight you have at me

So I am right that an NTSC screen won't do PAL  ..lame.. but I was expecting it, otherwise NTSC and PAL wouldn't exist, screens would just be screens

I think that using an app to convert all my games would probably be too much effort, Guess I'll just hold out for a Pal screen from ebay Australia or UK.

I probably shouldn't tackle a PS2p and a N64p at the same time anyway, especially because it'll be my first try at this sorta stuff

Just read through your thread.. looking nice! I thought my 'no-disk drive' idea was innovative, guess not lol  ..although when I do mine I'm going to add this in there: HD Combo for PSTWO SCPH-7000X

Running games off of an internal hard drive will be much faster than a USB drive, and I'm pretty sure the compatibility is better too  only thing is I think you have to use that with a 3.5" HDD it'd be good if I could figure out how to chuck a 2.5" laptop hard drive into it instead

That one is for the PS2 slim lol  to 'hard-drive-ify' a fat ps2 you just need a ps2 network adapter, sweetest mod I ever found out about when I was 15  freaking HATE loading times on consoles using disks. A big reason I still love the N64 so much, well that, and the fact it's awesome

I was hoping getting the HD Combo thing and then ripping out it's guts wouldn't add too much too the size, seens as the cd drive is gone. I think even if it adds a bit, it'd be super worth it, having a 500gb laptop drive in there, with an external port where you could plug in a cable to the computer to transfer games into it. would be so sweet.

I found a cheap SCPH-70002 PS2 slim earlier today (only about $100NZD) but checked out my funds and I could just afford it but then it'd slow down my N64p project.. so instead of having most of the stuff to do 2 projects, I've decided to postpone my PS2 antics so that I can have all of what I need to finish one of the projects.. ..so hard when I want it all now

..In the end it was a trade between the PS2 and building a vacuum forming table. I'd rather my case looks freaking awesome than have the PS2 right now :D

Woah! that looks way less bulky! Except with that one you have to install a DMS4 Pro mod chip :( that'll add to the overall cost, I can't even find anyone in NZ selling/installing those chips

If somebody wants to link me to what needs to be flashed to those chips the guy is selling, I could probably make them :)
