Here's a little update. Back part is holding battery's L and R buttons and gamecube mobo with laser. Everything is working properly.

Nice work Zenloc!!!! So what did you do to get the PS2 fan working??? Oh, and I will be shipping out that PAL screen & mobo on Tuesday (I think the post office is closed tomorrow for Memorial Day).

This thing looks awesome tho! Very organized. Oh and fyi, you can replace the right motor (the one that controls the laser movements) with a CD motor to reduce the height. It will still work fine. Just in case you need to :)

About how thick is it on the sides (where you hold it)?

Thickness is 5cm on the sides and 6cm in the middle with the discdrive.

I could get it smaller and thinner if I wanted to but to get some practical battery life this thickness was needed.

Also I couldn't get the fan working so I modded a 5v fan from a wii into the ps2 fan and it works!! Just look at how the fan looks a bit odd in the pics above.

@ Tchay: Perfect!! let me know when you have sent it  As for the drive motor with what kind of motor did you replace it?? Pics?

I'll dig up some old posts

Any CD motor should work just fine. Considering that CD motors spin non-stop for long periods of time, while the laser motor only spins occasionally for disc reading, CD motors will have no problem handling the laser. I've tested it on several Gamecube disc drives and played games for hours without problems.

Obviously, this motor is only slightly less tall. BUT, there are CD motors out there that are half the size of the normal Gamecube motor. Which is pretty handy 8)

Getting the screw holes to line up on the motor took a little persuasion but wasn't too tricky.
