i just introduced my friend to portables and he thought it was cool and he wants to build his first one what should it be

he basicly has every system including CD-i like me.

Why not a CD-I then? :)
Actually, I suppose it all depends on what his favorite system is.
SNES is pretty easy, the PSOne is easy unless you try to make a cd cover for it.

he siad he wants to do Psone and improve on Bens Design like put a lid on it but it wouldnt be required to close it.

I'm sure Ben's figured this out, and I've found it out from designing my own psp too, designing and making a working cd cover isn't very easy.

What about designing the cover to be part of the back so that you can just replace the cd and batteries in one simple action. Have it hing down at the bottem.
