That's identical to one of our furnace return vents! (Ours is only the faceplate though; no knob or vanes. I had no idea it was that old!)

I put a mini-ITX computer into a server power supply. For reference, all the fans are 80mm. The original case for the computer was too small and cooked it, so I chopped the case up, cut the back out of the PSU, and super glued them together. The fans are all running on 5v and are barely audible. The CPU stays ~90F/32C even at full load (it is just a VIA C7, though). It is powered by a 60w picoPSU.

I put custom leds in my xbox 360's ring of light, and in a controller. The blue lights looker way cooler than the green, especially with the custom windows I cut in the side of the case. Pics later... if I feel like it.

Re: The Afternoon projects thread.
I found a few things on the side of the road: a 60 year old brass clock shaped like a pocketwatch, and an old satelite receiver. I then polished the brass, took oiut the clock, and turned it into a pot for a bonsai tree I'm trying to grow. With the Satelite receiver, I gutted it and put a car stereo in it, I couldn't fit a power supply in there with it, so it now has a molex connector to plug into anyone's desktop power supply... at the expense of their decade old cd drive... I would have pics, but I can't send them from my phone to my computer... stupid phone/computer...

I wanted to make myself a peanut butter sandwich. Then I found out I was out of bread! All I had access to was a vending machine. So this is what I got:

whipped up a pic microcontroller program that basically turns a switch on and off every 50 milliseconds. Then I hooked it up to my "Pokemon Pikachu 2" pedometer game I have. Now I can have all the fun of a pokemon walking game without the walking. Also the more you walk, the better mystery gifts you can send to your pokemon gold / silver / crystal. My project for the next week, if I get time is try capture what it sends out of the infrared port with another pic. Then I can just push a button and get rare candies and stuff like that.

I made an acoustic-electric guitar with some duct tape, foam, wire, a mono 1/4" jack and a piezo buzzer. It would be perfect but radioshack charged me $10 for a buzzer and 1/4" jack. Meh.
I also made a soldering station from a metal poker chip tin, light switch, uninsulated copper wire and an outlet. Pics will be delivered when I get home.
