techknott's Gamecube brief worklog

Post by techknott »

Hi guys, people have been asking why I dont document my progress. The main reason.......I cant be bothered and dont have the patience. But, I did take a few pics as I was doing it so here they are. The main thing was to make it as cheaply as possible - hence no batteries. Didn't really think that sticking them in the thread in the news section was appropriate. So if ive done wrong, sorry mods!!

To lengthen the dvd drive ffc's I just bought some cables @ 0.5mm pitch and 1.0mm pitch, couldn't get any that had the correct number of conductors so I just bought some with more than I needed and scored them along the grain them with a stanley knife, then bend and tear. Easy. Then, simply soldered together and glued.

Pic of main guts, everything is screwed as opposed to glued for easy access and removal if required.

Your secrets are now exposed! I like this very much, it full of win.

I love the heatsink how it's routed through the system, was that custom made?

Lookin good Techknott! Is this attempt #3 :P

I like your heatsink placement. It will work great because it is right next to the disc drive which will act as a fan on its own (most people don't think about how much circulation the spinning disc creates 8) ).

So! You have the L and R going sideways, is that correct? Or is it more complicated than that.

And I can't emphasize how beautiful this looks!

Should have sent me a PM I would have got you the numbers and also the connectors so you wouldn't have had to solder :)

Looking good.

I could have got them from digikey, but they charge like $50 or something just to ship to uk. It's no problem soldering them anyway, I just ended up getting them with twice as many pins and halving them. So now I've got spares too.

Where did you get the heat pipes from? Salvaged from something?
