Hailrazers's 2nd Dreamcast Portable -- The Dreamweaver

Post by hailrazer »

Well I have been commissioned to make a Dreamcast Portable. And actually paid this time :)

So far this is the plan :

Case - Datamax Case -- Frankenmodded -
Case color -- White (requested by buyer)
Batteries -- 7.4v 9000mAh Lithium Polymer
Screen -- Zenith 5" Psone.
Controller -- Official Dreamcast Controller
Vmu hardwired inside
Headphone jack
A/V out
4 controller ports on unit or in a breakout box.
Disc Drive cover--- Has to be square ---- I'll experiment.

I will be posting here to keep the buyer up to date on the progress and to get his input on the direction he wants to go.

Feel free to give any opinions. (Most will be ignored) Joking :)

Disc Drive cover--- Might do a whilte painted cd cover type design ---- I'll experiment.

Cool, although the Datamax case will be quite a fit for the Dreamcast motherboard.

I was asked by the buyer to start a new thread.

And it's really none of your business so please leave it alone.

OK I have the disc cover figured out :)

I have to make it square because the disc is not centered on the drive mechanism.

So I found a project box that will work from Radio Shack. I cut it in half and took the bottom half off.
I am going to abs cement and epoxy/filler the bottom half to the case.
Then I will add earth magnets to the 4 screw posts and then the top will pop on and off.

As you can see it leaves just enough room on the bottom/sides for the triggers.

How can you use the L+R buttons in a square disc drive, or is it already figured out? I hope it will be comfortable to use :)

The L and R buttons will be on the side of the disc drive cover. i already tested it and there is plenty of room.

Really if you want a cover this is the ONLY way it will work.

Got the screen in place in the front of the case.

I am raising this one up a bit to give a little more room inside the portable for the larger batteries and heatsinks.

Hard to tell in the pic but it's not flush it is around 1/4" -5/16" higher than the surrounding case.

For Analog stick and d-pad I will most likely use the Gamecube anlaog and d-pad. The Gamecubes d-pad is almost identical to the Dreamcasts and the analog stick is very similar.
