Guess what's coming in the mail to me? (Done! Video page 5!)

In all the ones you're mass-producing though, you should use Retro Duos, since the FC Twin has trouble with a ton of SNES games.

No, the FC Twin does not have trouble with a ton of games. It has issues with a few games. More importantly, though, is that I discovered working with the FC Twin is a pain in the ass. There are two boards you have to deal with, and the solder on mine was very hard to work with. The Retro Duo is so much easier to chop down to about the same size, plus everything is on one board. Way easier. The new case design is also large enough to house an SNES mini, so if someone wants 100% play-ability then we're good to go.

Are you sure it only has trouble with a few? Because I was looking in to it and saw a BUNCH that it apparently doesn't like.

i suppose it depends on your definition of "a bunch". a dozen or a few dozen out of approximately 700 released titles isnt really that much.

True. The list was only about 15 titles long, but it has KSS, KDL3, and SMRPG. Still, that's really not many.
But that doesn't mean it's as good for portablizing as the Retro Duo.

It's an awesome idea, but I wanted to be the only one doing that! D:Life of Brian wrote:So, I gots me an idea. When I get around to ordering a new case and I'm all set to build revision number two, I think I'll record video with my camera each time I'm working on the portable. Since I have just about every part of the design figured out by now, the building process should go pretty quickly. And since I'll be recording each time I work on the thing, I can discuss parts of building a portable that I usually forget to mention during my typical "completed project" videos. Hopefully I can share some more tidbits of wisdom about what it takes to build a portable and the uneducated masses can see firsthand just what it takes to make something of this complexity. Naturally I'll edit it down so the most interesting/relevant stuff will be included instead of hours of me quietly soldering. What do you guys think?
But you should seriously do it. The more people sharing the building process, the more engaging it will become to potential portablizers.

When do you think you will finish making this, and how much do you think you will sell it for?
Chuck Norris is the only person who is man enough to build a Philips CD-i portable.

Any new progress? It would make me very sad to see this abandoned.

It's not abandoned. It's sitting on my desk right now and I look at it every day... as I work on other projects. There are a few issues delaying this portable. One is the stereo audio amp with digital pot pushbutton control. I need to find components for it that are more readily available than what I used in my prototype. The second main issue is time - I'm currently working full time in addition to finishing up my final semester of college working on a chemistry degree.
Of course, if someone wanted to pay me for my time I would be willing to finish this sucker up.

I'm currently playing a game called "let's see how many times I can revive this thread from the dead!" For those of you who have been checking out my regular webcam action, you know what's going on. For everyone else, here:
