Sega Nomad SP!!!!!!!

Post by Gamelver »

Since I don't already have enough portables to work on, why not add another :P?!?!?!?....anyway, I'm planning on "re-portablizing" the Sega Nomad, giving it a new case a and a 5 inch psone screen :). btw, it will NOT have a folding screen design like the GBA SP ;).....It'll be a fairly easy portable, since all I need really is some batteries, a psone screen, and some switches and stuff :). I'll probably begin working on it after the GCp, although I really wanted to finish the N64p4 first......wonder which one I should do........

btw, the reason I want to "re-portablize" the Nomad is because on mine there are a bunch of pixels stuck on orange and it's really distracting. also, I'll try to have better battery life and of course a bigger screen :).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Ah, I have the same problem with the orange pixels. With mine, it was because some kid threw my backpack at school while it was in it, causing a hairline scratch along the screen. Luckily it's in a highly unused area, but it cna be distracting still. Good luck with it, although I really want to see a finished GCp soon.

I was gonna reportabilize my namad. with radica guts. I got rgb input to othe screen. Only thing I need now is a chroma decoder and time

what a great idea! I have about 3 nomads - 1 works well, 1 doesn't work at all, and the other has a blob of orange pixels. I had thought of tearing apart the one that doesn't work to use the case for something else, but I hadn't thought of using the internals of the one with the messed up screen and re-casing and re-screening it. Excellent !!

actually, I think I was the one who inspired him......doesn't really matter though, as long as we're all inspired to portablize :P!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the idea a while back, but decided against it as long as my Nomad was playable. I figure when the orange pixels spread too far, I'll prolly shelve it for collecting and either buy another one, or build a better one from a radica.

yeah the main reason I'm building it is 'cause I hate those stupid orange pixels, and also the screen is just a tad too small.......5 inches would definitely be good :).

I remember saying something like this a while back. Everyone hated the idea because the Nomad was already portable. But if you use the Radica Genesis thing and an LED-modded screen, you can have TFT image quality with less power consumption.

I remember the orange pixel problem. My old Powerbook 165c had it. (passive-matrixd (non-TFT screen. Maybe TFTs don't get it as easily?)

I'm thinking about doing something like this. I was going to use a Radica, but I want my portable to be able to run all the games. So I will probably modify a Nomad.

Nomad has full compatibility? I didn't know that.

Well no, not full compatibility. But far better than the radica. It probably has similar compatibility to the Genesis 3, but I'm not totally sure.

Well it's not a Genesis on a chip, it's got a pretty much full motherboard. It should have very close to 100% compatibility.
