"Cut down" PSOne screen not working correctly. (video)

Hey all,

So I'm following Erlex's PSOne screen cut down guide, and I've run into a problem. I'm not getting a good video signal (or hardly one at all for that matter).

Here's a video of what happens when I turn on the video input device. (in this case, an unaltered, wall powered N64)

And here are a couple of pics of my wiring:

The black phone jack is power, which is wired to the switch. The naked phone jack is video (RCA to phone jack to solder)

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more video or pics, I'll get them ASAP.

Your wiring looks fine. I can't see a problem.
Is there any other system you can test it out on?
I feel bad... Like its my fault...

on the right side of the board where the sync separator is you might have cut the 5v line. That would make the chip do nothing! also resulting in no image. Check to back of the board and make sure this trace is still intact.

If it's not that then you should recheck all the traces on the side that you cut to make sure you havn't missed anything. Also you might want to play around with where you place the components.

Could you give us a complete picture of the back if that doesn't work out?

WAIT! I think I see it. I think the ground plane where you put the 7805 regulator is not part of the ground plane as a whole anymore because of your cutting. Try just running a wire from the ground of that component to somewhere that you know is ground elsewhere on the board.

Good observation, but it is grounded. The one definite way I know that is because that regulator is powering all of the LEDs, and they all work. That and when I use my multimeter to measure resistance between that point and any other known ground on the board, I get 0.00Ω.

I'm at work now, I'll double check that and then check on what Zenloc said when I get home.

Just got home. The 7805 is grounded, and it doesn't look like I cut that 5V trace.

EDIT:
One thing I thought I would restate, just for clarity, is that the screen does seem to be getting some kind of signal. It's just that it's a lame, streaky, non-distinguishable signal. And it only gets said signal when the video source receives power.

SUCCESS! I was measuring different voltages and I noticed that the voltage coming off of the relocated 7805 was only ~1.98V, so I wired the 7.5V power to the 7805's intake lead, and everything works wonderfully now! Thanks for all the advice.
I still don't really know why the voltage was so off. But this is a good fix for anyone having the same problem.
