need help deciding what to do first

hey guys im really new to this kind of stuff and i barely know anything about electronics and such. what should my first portable project be?

P.S. i also have this portable dvd player, its made from coby

I would recommend making an NOACp (NES-on-a-chip portable). NOAC's (like the Yobo and Retro Entertainment System) are very small, have low power requirements, and at least in my experience, are pretty hard to break.

what gets the job done for doing these kinds of projects, a 200ºC (392ºF) to 450ºC (842ºF) soldering iron, or a 30Watt Soldering Iron & Solder?

A 30 watt soldering iron should be fine. I use a 15/30W one from Radio Shack.
