What's this? ANOTHER ZN-45 N64 portable? Egads!

did you check with a multimeter if everything is in place and nothing is touching anything it shouldn't touch, no connections crossed, etc.

You mean along the wires for the cartridge slot? Or just everything else? I've checked through everything. I think I'll just clean the board and let it sit for a day. So much for getting it done by the 27th...

If it were mine I'd put the fan on the top seeing as heat rises
Nice case work though

The fan pulls air from inside the case and pushes it out.
It doesn't matter where the fan is located.

BWAH HA HA HA HA!!! IT'S ALIVE!!!
I think it was just a connection with the 3.3v regulator. I ended up soldering the 3.3v line to ground after a wire came off. I fixed that, and it finally worked. As I attempted to hook up the controller, though, the part on the back of the board where you solder for video (EXT_V), the pad came off, so I can't get video anymore :'( . I looked at Erlex's screen cutting guide to find where else I could input video.

Do I connect to spot D? I'm pretty sure I do, but I just wanted to check, because that is not working.

Yep.
Those pads on the bottom are actually test pads and were never meant to be actually soldered to I think and have heard.
They rip off VERY easily, especially if you use too big of wire.
That's why none of them are left on my PSone screen.

you should also be able to solder to that capacitor next to it, at least on a pal screen. should be the same.

Re: What's this? ANOTHER ZN-45 N64 portable? Egads!
Thanks guys! I soldered to the top of the capacitor and it worked first try!
All I have left is to hook up the controller, wire in the batteries, and actually figure out which wire goes where on the analog stick. I had a derp and didn't label them when I cut the plug off, so I'm prepared for a lot of trial and error.
And also, any reason my TI chip would suddenly die? EDIT: The chip did not actually die, but somehow the red power LED did. I'm wondering if something happened where it got a sudden input of power that killed it and the N64.

Re: What's this? ANOTHER ZN-45 N64 portable? Egads!
So I'm really frustrated now. Testing with Perfect Dark, I get the N64 to run and show up on the screen. It says that the expansion pack is detected, so that is all good and well. It even displays that the controller is not connected.
When wire the controller up, and turn the power on again it doesn't boot up. I unwire the controller from the N64 board, and it still won't boot. I have to let it sit for a long time and try again to get it to boot wo/ the controller.
So basically, every time I try to wire up the controller, it won't boot for a long time afterwards. Anyone run into this before?

That picture shows you where everything can be found. I couldn't get video out of the spot Erlex labeled, but Kyo said the capacitor next to it should work, and it did! Solder your video line to where the red dot is. And make sure your system and screen are grounded together.

Yes, connect the ground of the N64 to the ground of the screen.

Is this when you plug in an external controller? If you have an external controller and the internal controller installed at the same time it will confuse the n64. You need to install either a slide switch or an automatic switching mechanism thinglimpport wrote:So I'm really frustrated now. No. I'm wiring the red and white wires from the controller board to their respective spots on the N64 motherboard.
