Project SGP-1 *UPDATE 3/13/10*

Post by thewizdawg » Mon Jan 11, 2010 1:38 pm

I've been working on a Sega Genesis Portable. Thought I'd post a pic of the case. Just need to paint it.

Specs:
Genny 3 board
Super Pad by Performance
3.5 LCD screen
Frankencase Tiger Electronics game

I still have a lot of work to do but hopefully it will be done before MGC.

Major casework finished. Here's a few pics taken with my Iphone.

The controller I used was a never used Super Pad.

Here is the board all cut up. The knife only slipped a couple times, no major damage. :)

Wow good job!
What kind of filler/bondo do you use?

What paint is that? It looks textured. Could just be poor image quality.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I like to use 2 part epoxy to fill in bigger holes. My favorite is RepairitQuik. I got it at Home Depot but it looks like they don't sell it anymore, so I bought AquaMend, It's made by the same company. However to me, it doesn't seem to cure as hard. The trick is to use as little as possible, saves you from unnecessary sanding. This was the first time I used bondo glazing and spot putty to fill in the little holes. Worked nicely, and sanded easy.

The spray paint is Krylon Indoor-Outdoor Gloss Black. I had a can left over from a previous portable. Then to finish it off I used Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Gloss. They lied, it's not crystal clear. It leaves a textured finish on black paint. But I like the way it looks.

I have the caps "flattened" on the board and ports removed. This weekend I need to relocate the cart slot and everything should fall into place.... I hope.

Project is still on going, just slow going.

Cart slot holder glued to case. Batteries (2- 3.7V 3200mAh), protection circuit, and power jack installed.

Today I decided to wire up the controls. Used some 30 awg hdd cable. Scrap the traces to expose some copper. Tin it and then tin the end of the cable and use some light duty solder and you're good to go.

There's plenty of room in case so I'm gonna keep the original backing of the controls. Avoids using hot glue and the controls will be solid.
