Stupid question

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Stupid question

Post by Falco » Mon Dec 21, 2009 12:15 am

This might be a really dumb question, but... I hear about everyone getting their PSone screens for $20-30, but all I can find on eBay are upward prices from $50, or combo sales...

Is there a reliable place to look for these screens with reasonable prices, or do I just have to wait for a deal on eBay?

Prices are anywhere from $20 - $60. The screen itself is also kinda getting rare. You can actually find better deals for the screen when they are bundled with a PSOne. My suggestion is to by those Xbox screens, as it is exactly the same hardware as the PSOne screen, they are not hard to find, and they will only run you about $45 new on eBay.

Thanks for the tip, I found a few reasonable deals on the Xbox screens... They all appear to be the same model as the PSone screen regardless of brand name, too, which is interesting.

But speaking of different models, do you think a screen like this: http://www.matelectronics.com/acatalog/G8270.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; would be just as good a choice as a PSone-similar screen, considering the larger size and despite the widescreen look?

1. I think that's an Intec screen, which are considered to be of poor quality.

2. If memory serves, the screen isn't that big.

3. In general, larger screens tend to draw more battery power.

Zenith is the brand that uses the same guts as the PSone screen. You'll be ok using one made for any system, GC, Xbox, or PS2. I don't know of any other brands that are the same.
That xbox screen you linked to is probably 7". Pretty big for most handheld portables, and it stretches the image from most systems.

The square screen I linked to was 5.4" and for $10 less, but then again it does seem to be widescreen.

Trust me, that screen is known to suck. Don't get it.
