The perfect amplifier/speakers to go with your small screen.

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

The perfect amplifier/speakers to go with your small screen.

Post by hailrazer » Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:04 pm

I finally found an all in one setup that is pretty much perfect for using with a screen that has no audio amp or speakers.

It's called the Iluv iSP100 :

Here's a review :
http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/i ... er-isp100/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It is very small.
It has volume up/down and power tact switches.
It runs off 5v.
It has built in speakers which sound better than 99% of the speakers I have heard.
It draws around 20mA at low volume and an average of around 45-50mA at near max volume.

Here's a pic of it next to a 9v battery for size comparison :

To open it you need to remove the grill from the top by hooking it with a small screwdriver or something similar and just pull it straight off. Then there are four screws to remove and the case pops open.

This is what it looks like when apart :

The speakers are not recessed ,so when installing them in a portable you will need to make a small ring for them to sit on so the speaker doesn't hit the case. But other than that installation of this is a breeze.

Well hopefully this helps someone :)

It's a lot louder and it sounds a lot better, no bass distortion :)

This looks nice! Questions though, what is that translucent plastic looking thing on the top of the board? Is it needed? And, about how thick is the board overall?

I can build a LM386 amp with a speaker/control for under $8. Be no bigger then the LM386 really looking at less than 1sq inch.

Stereo..I will have to find that schematic.

found it.

Chips is $2.30 for all the parts you are still looking under $14. Probably less for a really high quality stereo amp. Has built in headphone detection and everything.

You can make one for the TPA6021A4 as it just uses a Variable voltage on a single pin to control volume (use a DAC or potentiometer). I have been one to like the use of potentiometers for volume control tho.

Speakers ? Shipping ?

Yea See I bought this for $22. No buying parts. No building a circuit. No soldering. Works perfect.
And from what I've read about the stereo LM386 amp , this one will have much better sound :)

I'm all for DIY but really, come on. :)

Your buying tacts, power regulators, and other random crap so shipping is not an issue. (those prices I listed where with speakers, good ones to)

TPA6021A4 will probably be better audio quality then that anyways .

My price includes a switching headphone jack which is lacking on your audio amp.

I'm just saying its 1 square inch to big and $10 more then what can be built.
