Making a dreamcast portable

Post by exp0wnster » Sat Dec 05, 2009 10:37 pm

Hi, I'm trying to make a dreamcast portable like hailraizers. I haven't done something like this before, so I am not exactly sure what to do.
Right now I have a ps1 screen, and later I am going to get a pico psu and a battery.
I bought some wire that is 14 gauge, is that ok for battery hook-up? Also what type of wire should I get for the screen connections?
Is there any pictures for connecting the screen to the dreamcast? I don't have a ps1 so I can't test if the ps1 screen is working, Is there a way to test it with just a energizer battery?

Thanks,
exp0wnster

EDIT: I have a psp wall adapter, its like a ps1 adapter, but when i put it in the ps1 screen power plug it does nothing.
Isn't there something you have to do to get the ps1 screen to turn on whenever it gets five volts?

Or you can turn on a soldering iron and start stabbing motherboards repeatedly until something lights up.

Do you have a PSone or Gamecube wall adaptor?
Nothing to see here.

PSP adaptor only has 5v, you need at least 7.4-8 or something volts... can't remember. Can you get access to a PSone wall adaptor? It's 7.4v! :D

Oh, and in a few days I'll post pictures on how to hook up the screen to your Dreamcast.

I don't own a ps1 neither do people I know but..

I found a gamecube wall adapter though, if it will work for powering the ps1 screen

What type of wire should I get? Isn't there different types of wire for different things, Like the screen connection and the battery connection.

I'm thinking on what to order for the psu. I know I'll get the pico psu but what version should I get (volt-wise)?

Thanks for your help :D

EDIT:

Thanks for the ebay link, I'll get it

But where would I get a 7808 regulator for free?

wire: 24 or 30 awg is always nice to have.
you need to buy a 7808 regulator with the gamecube psu to get the voltage down to 8v, but it'll work with the dc and pico psu I think.(It outputs 12v at 3A)

Oh yeah, I forgot you would need a picoPSU first... sorry! The Gamecube adaptor only outputs 12v, which would fry the PSone screen... guess you'll have to buy a 7808 regulator for the screen and a picoPSU for powering the Dreamcast! Sorry! Fortunately, the 7808 regulators are very cheap - free!

PS: If you want a PicoPSU, this in the one I got, from the same seller too. Seller is very nice and has great communication!

Yea, I have 14 gauge wire that's stranded. Good enough for the job?

Anyway I have a friend who's good in stuff like this coming over, If i had a diagram or something it would help.

Thanks a lot!
