for the same reason you make anything removable, so that if is breaks, you can take it apart and fix it.

screwposts. or hotglue, that can be peeled off with a little more work.

So here i am doing an assessment within the ps2, taking measurements and figuring out what i can still use and what i cant...immediately i notice that the ribbon cable for the optical drive is waaaay to small...and i'm fiddling with the fan to see if i want to keep this one or use another one...like "Angel" said...i gotta find a way to mount the motherboard so that I can get to easy if something goes wrong....
the laser cable is probably the biggest challenge as far as soldering goes, i tried using 30 awg wire to extend the laser clip, which worked to a point, but seems to have quit on me (probably because the ends where shorting off each other). i have decided im going to redo my mobo after all, but this time im not gonna remove the original clip, im going to take 2 dead laser drives, and lift the clips off of them, and solder them together, making them into a ribbon cable coupler. that way i can just use 2 ribbon cables to give me the extra length i need
