My screen probably uses atleast 2 amps. If you can find a small PSU that would be great. It basically has to be as big/small as the original.
Edit: How many amps do you think the xbox uses in all? The Power brick that came with the screen provides 12V 3amps I've sucessfully used it to run the screen and a wii at the same time!
Maybe it would be possible to use the pico psu to power the xbox and then just use the 12v line from the screen to power the screen? I'm completely skipping AC power then (atleast inside the thing) since the power brick is then external?

Re: xBook worklog [WITH PICS]
The Xbox is a power sucking beast compared to the Wii. IIRC, the Wii uses ~20w (under 2A at 12v), while the Xbox uses ~70w (~8A at 12v). So using the screen's PSU to power the Xbox through a picoPSU is a no go.hackmodford wrote:How many amps do you think the xbox uses in all? 8 amps Good thing I never even considered batteries.
So my power supply needs 4 contacts. AC+ AC- DC12v+ DC Ground.

You could have both PSUs in the case, I wouldn't think the screen's PSU would be too big.

Re: xBook worklog [WITH PICS]
Well you see, one of the main reasons I ordered this particular screen was because it was powered by 12V DC not AC with an internal PSU. But maybe I could find a small AC-DC psu that can supply 3 amps? and just use that specifically for the screen?
So right now I need to know.
Would Bondo on the sides and sanded down then painted make it smooth and nice?
Can I make it so that when you plug in a controller it disconnects the keyboard/usb/remote IR?
Which friction hinges is Ben using?

I would fill in the cracks with something, yes. Then sand it down pretty! Alternately, if you want the cracks there, you could just sand it so they're all even but the cracks are still there.
I remember ganon's n64 autoswitch thing, it used an spdt lever switch so that when the controller was plugged in, the swith would engage andn cut power to the other devices.

Re: xBook worklog [WITH PICS]
So you're thinking to use a more physical/dirty method? I was thinking of having some kind of circuit that can detect when something was plugged in and disconnect the usb ports and use whatever is plugged in the controller port.
It was in the old log but it was deleted... or atleast my post were...

Well, yes. There is a guide somewhere in the N64 section, I think it was just bumped too.
What it does, is when you plug in something external, internal stuff gets disconnected from the power so it means nothing.

Thanks for the props!
in re: the power sucking behemoth of the xbox, I think yours might be sucking up a little less power because it is missing a fan or two and has a smaller HDD (2.5in instead of 3.5). This drops power requirements by about 5w on average (according to Tom hardware). Don't know if that changes your Amps required tho...

Re: xBook worklog [WITH PICS]
Just wondering would it be possible to wire a usb hub and connect it to controller port 4.
Then connect the DVD dongle, Keyboard, couple usb ports and controller input to that?
Will the xbox detect a controller/dvd dongle/keyboard/usb port etc.?

Re: xBook worklog [WITH PICS]
The Xbox only allows one hub per controller port. The controller has a hub built in for the controller and the 2 memory cards slots. So a controller in a hub won't work, but everything else should. You could install a switch to bypass the hub if you want a controller to work in that port.
