Splitting a GC controller?

Post by HotDog-Cart » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:37 pm

Hey guys. For uhmm... something, I have to split a GC controller in half.

Ive heard of two ways to do this.

1) Cut the controller board in half, and then wire the two halfs together,

2) Use two controllers. Cut one in half, and then wire both of those halfs to the other GC controller. (The remaining GC controller would be used as like a hub, or something. It'd be wired to the two halves.)

Which ones easier?

And, are there any other methods?

Easiest though, for me, is to use two controllers. Your best bet though would probably be tact switches, unless you wanted the mushy feeling.

Why the post palmer? I havn't even posed my response to the "awnser" yet.

And here it is:

Yes, I know I can split the controller like that, but I was wondering if I could use the same technique to split the controller right down the middle. (So its in two even halfs.)

Thanks.

Probably not, you'd end up chopping right through the IC in the middle :( You could do something like ben did in his n64 portable

But two halves, not feasibly.

easiest and best way for me, is to use 2 controllers

i've posted a few pictures in older threads and explained it with a decent amount of detail if you can find them

ive found out it is possible to cut and split it and have a working board still, but its more of a 2/3---1/3 type thing, you cant split it down the middle, and some of the traces are pretty damn small

You can also look for some wierder GC controllers. Some of the boards are wierd and give you some options. I would check out the smaller controllers for starts. In a month or so, I will be splitting up my controller and post pics on my worklog. You just gotta be creative ;)

My bad, for some reason my brain told me "October" when I looked at "August."
