So, I just finished placing the order for the PTH's and wouldn't you know it, you guys used up all the PTH08080WAS's! They're back ordered so I got the other 5 instead. Ordered a few video chips too that I may be able to use. I'll check them out when I get them.

I really like where your project is going! Hehe i don't have the exact electronics education as most or I would try to dabble in something like this. They make most of these mobos too large for their needs, and why did they bother giving it a memory expansion slot when they could of just designed what it needed on the board......

Do tell or PM if u decided to reproduce and sell this, N64 has to be on my list of portables to make and to see a smaller mobo is promising, especially if it has the power needs designed all into one unit.

Though my list of portables to make happens to be SNES, Genesis, N64, and possibly NES there happens to be many smaller ports out there to date.

so people would have to buy it to play better games and nintendo get more money
Real answer: They originally planned on it having the full 8MB of RAM, but it would have been too costly to include from the outset. So they planned for the expansion pak to be released later, after memory prices dropped. Same reason I got my old computer with 256MB of RAM and later upgraded it to 1GB when RAM was cheaper.

*wonders why Nintendo didn't release an N64 Elite with built-in expansion pack...*

If the oscillators are as small as they are, you should make an underclock/overclock switch.

The standard overclock mod just requires a pin jump on the CPU, no physical oscillator switch.

Anybody care to take a wild guess, a REALLLLLY wild guess as to what these two little dip switches underneath one of the corners of the CPU are for? Anybody?

It's been two days. Give him a break.

Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

about those samples... They asked when the final product would go into production, and how much I would be using their company. I responded saying it might not go into production, and I'd probably only use them 2 more times tops, and they haven't responded. Maybe I should have lied

Not much in the way of updates. I'm currently waiting to receive the PTH08080's so I can see if they'll fit properly on the board.

I haven't been able to work on any of it within the last few days or today as I've been busy with a few other things. I finished working on building myself a workbench for the garage (much needed) yesterday and also our fridge went bad sometime yesterday. Fridge didn't seem to be cooling properly and I didn't find out 'til this morning that the compressor wasn't working at all when everything in the freezer had thawed out. Turns out that the relay PTC on the compressor died. I had to ghetto rig the fridge with parts from an old computer monitor to get it to run so I had been toying with that and trying to find the part I need from an appliance repair place nearby. I think I'm going to just forget the appliance store as I'm probably going to have to end up paying about $40 for something that's not even worth that much IMO and just build something comparable with electronic components I already have that will do the same job. :P

So anyway, I should be posting some more progress soon.

Stuntpenguin007, they sent you an email asking that? First time I got some samples they didn't ask anything. I got the email from them with the fedex number, says package should be arriving on the 1st.
