A usb adapter would suck because the xbox has usb 1.1, which would work with usb 2.0, but it would be like watching paint dry when it loads.stuntpenguin007 wrote:So is the point of this removable media? You could always just build a usb adapter, and use most flash drives up to 4GB. Its kind of slow, but then again an sd card would probably be slow too.

Exactly.
That is why a CF card would be a desirable option in this situation, especially because it is parallel so it can talk to the Xbox directly instead of indirectly through a Serial>Parallel Converter.

Re: Replace Xbox DVD drive with SD card slot
You still couldn't do it because you can't trick an xbox into thinking a CF adapter is a DVD drive. The CF cards would probably be viewed as hard drives, and you can only have two hard drives if your booting linux.

I thought it was possible to replace the DVD drive with a HD if you chip your box...Joes2Silly wrote:You still couldn't do it because you can't trick an xbox into thinking a CF adapter is a DVD drive. A custom bios fix might work as well.
Or possibly you could have a CF card that replaces the original HD and has the Xbox's OS written to it and a bunch of games. Or maybe that is just a little too far outside the box...

Re: Replace Xbox DVD drive with SD card slot
It is entirely possible to replace the DVD Drive with a Hard Drive.
I'm going to give an example of how to use CF Cards, if you go and try SD Cards using some converter and it doesn't work, don't blame me.
What you need to do is bridge Pin 5 and 6 to Ground and supply 3.3v to Pin 7 on the DVD Drive Power Cable (The connector where the yellow cable plugs into)
After you do that, get a Molex Splitter and connect the IDE and Molex/whatever you can get 5V out of to the CF to IDE Adapter. Now the Xbox will always think that the drive is closed and it will be able to read the CF card if you have a modded Xbox and an appropriate way to access the files on the CF Card via a File Browser. It should show up as the D:/ Drive in any Dashboard.
Don't blame me if you copulate something up or it doesn't work.

Re: Replace Xbox DVD drive with SD card slot
I thought if you had a modchip then it would work... if you soldered it closed, like you said.
However, people have reported that it doesn't work with softmods. What gives?

The TSOP must be flashed for those with Softmods.64M320N3 wrote:I thought if you had a modchip then it would work... if you soldered it closed, like you said.

Re: Replace Xbox DVD drive with SD card slot
Oh, well that's convenient.
I might actually try this mod now.

I still have my doubts, but I'm not holding my breath over here
Re: Replace Xbox DVD drive with SD card slot
there is a way to run duel harddrives. llama sells the cables needed for this. not sure of all the steps you have to take to make it runJoes2Silly wrote:I've seen SD to IDE adapter's before, but you'd almost get more space with just your stock xbox hard drive. I believe the only way you can run two hard drives is if you are booting linux, but I haven't tried it so I don't know for sure.
